Super Friends are back in town.
Riverdale star KJ Apa and 1883 actress Isabel May have been cast in a new DC project for HBO Max, The Wonder Twins.
TheWrap reports that filming is set to begin in Atlanta in the summer, with Black Adam's (that's DC's upcoming anti-hero movie with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) writer Adam Sztykiel on script and directing duties.
The Wonder Twins are a pair of alien twins who touch hands and say a catchphrase to activate their powers. Zan (Apa) can transform into water, while Jayna (May) can turn into any animal.
The characters made their debut in the Hanna-Barbera classic series Super Friends, and have appeared in various other DC projects, from comics to TV shows, over the years.
As you can tell by their goofy powers, this is going to be a lighthearted project rather than grim and gritty, with the publication describing The Wonder Twins as a full-on comedy.
The cast of Riverdale have been speaking a lot lately about how they feel that the show could be coming to an end soon – and while that might be sad for fans, Apa previously said that he found the pressure of the role like being "in jail".
"As an actor, I will be judged on everything: my political opinions, my opinions on drugs, my opinions on the people I want to be with," he said. "Everything. It's something I've had to come to terms with.
"I try and look at it from a fan's perspective to understand the way they think," he continued. "But there are times when I'm like, 'Wow, they really have no idea that we are actual people. They can't separate us from our characters.' You don't have that in other professions.
"You don't dissect the life of a builder and start judging the decisions he makes in his life with his wife and kids."
The actor recently welcomed his first child with his partner Clara Berry.
